Welcome to the 2019 Holiday Tour of Homes ! I am excited to join 29 other bloggers for a week of Christmas Inspiration! If you are here from Heather at Setting For Four welcome! Heather has amazing style and I am so happy to be included after her tour!
Today each of us are sharing Living rooms or Dens, I am excited to share my Blue and Green Tartan Plaid Living room with you!
A huge thanks to Amy and Christy from 11 Magnolia Lane and Jenny from Evolution of Style for hosting the tour!
I try to switch things up each year by changing out a few items. My inspiration can come from anywhere, an image on Pinterest, a piece of decor, anything I fall in love with. Then it builds from there! I wrote about this years inspiration Here.
I have used a flocked tree for at least the past 7 years. This year I got a new tree from The King of Christmas. I was so nervous about going back to a natural looking tree but I LOVE it! I have a lot of neutral ornaments, flowers, and picks so the only thing I added to the tree is new ribbon and a few blue accents. I usually use three different types of coordinating ribbon, this year there are four! I used a navy velvet, a beautiful cream and blue stripe, a cream velvet and of course the Blue and green tartan plaid.
The only new pillows I added to my sofa are the antelope print pillows, I love them so much!! I’ve wanted to order some for so long, I am so glad I finally pulled the trigger. They are the perfect addition to my winter decor!
I found these trees at a local store a few years ago and I have enjoyed using them in different ways each season. I try to add classic pieces to my decor that can be repurposed each year.
I found these ginger jars recently and even though I purchased them to use for Christmas I will be able to use them all year. Originally I had eucalyptus in them, when I started pulling out my Christmas decor I added a few faux juniper branches. Instant winter decor that I can leave up throughout the coming winter months!
I am probably the most excited about how the mantle turned out! I found this mirror and had to have it! I measured it, and then later called the store and had them remeasure it to be sure. When I got it home I was devastated! I’m not sure what happened but it was a bit too tall. Like at least 5″ taller than I had hoped. I went as far as to call my brother to see if he could come redo the finish work on my fireplace to accommodate the mirror! When I get something in my head I might go to drastic lengths to make it work! Anyone else like that?? No? Ok well don’t tell my husband that I’m the only one LOL! In the end my husband helped me hang it so it tilts towards the room just a bit (the only way it would work because of the crown moulding at the top), I love it because it reflects the room, rather than just the ceiling and light fixture. After Christmas the only way it will be able to stay is if we have the trim redone, or if I leave the garland at the top of the mirror. Which isn’t an option for me. So I’ll be putting my art work back up.
To achieve look on the mantle I used three different garlands. For the base I used a really inexpensive outdoor garland I found on sale a few years ago. It really isn’t even pretty enough to display on it’s own, I think there may be 3 to 4 of them because they were too thin and sparse. Once those were hung (using lots of command hooks), I added a few realistic looking cedar garlands. At that point I loved how it looked, but sometimes I don’t know when to stop so I kept going haha. I then added two gold magnolia garlands, I was glad I kept going because I LOVE them! I finished up by wiring a few clear and gold ornaments, and a couple of greenery picks and then some simple velvet bows. Is it frowned upon to leave this up all year?? I might shed a tear or two when it’s time to take it down.
I don’t change out the decor on every shelf on our built ins but I did add a few of my favorite Christmas chachkies to create little vignettes. BTW I Googled Chachkies and this is the definition according to Urbandictionaries.com “Chachkies is the yiddish word for trinkets and collectables, AKA dust collectors that you would find in an old ladys house.” HAHAHAHA it’s official, I’ve turned into my Mother lol, maybe not my Mother but definitely somebody’s mother!
I have new family photos for the gallery wall, our outfits coordinate with our decor this year (did I mention I tend to be a little over the top?) I haven’t switched them out yet though. The only thing I did was take a little of the extra tartan plaid ribbon and tie a bow around the cream pillow. Sometimes the simplest things can make a big impact!
Some of you may be wondering how we watch TV with the sofa next to it. I am not a huge fan of having a TV in here so it doesn’t bother me, it is on a swing arm that pulls out and swivels so that helps. It does bother the boys a bit if they are trying to watch a game, but if we all want to watch something together we use the theater room.
Ok I totally snuck another room in this tour, but here’s where my flocked trees went! Haha, I told you I may be a little extreme sometimes! We have a lot of Christmas movies to watch and I’m so excited about this winter wonderland!
Thank you so much for hanging out with me today! Next up of the tour is Rachael at This Is Our Bliss I think you will love what she has in store for you! If you missed the other tours you can catch up below, you can also see the line up for the rest of the week!

Jen, I always love seeing your home decked out for the holidays! I’m so smitten with the blue tartan plaid! So pretty! And I’m like you – I really try to force pieces in that I love as well. That mirror is GORGEOUS!!! If it doesn’t work for your space without a complete rebuild of your trim work, send it my way. 😉

Thank yo so much Jenny! I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the tour once again this year! It’s my favorite time of year and I love sharing my home with everyone. I think this Tartan plaid will definitely have to be on repeat, I’m obsessed too 🙂 I will for sure send things your way next time I can’t measure correctly haha! XX Jen

Jen, it’s perfect. I agree that your garland on your mantel should be left up year round because it’s a masterpiece! And sorry about the mirror because it’s gorgeous. Are you sure you can’t make it work? Thanks for the bonus of the media room because I love your winter wonderland in there. Merry (early) Christmas and thanks for touring with us again this year! XO, Christy

Ha thanks Christy! I might just have to leave it up after all 😂! Yes I’m sure about the mirror 😢it would definitely involve a finish carpenter. I may do it down the road but once I take the garland off it looks weird from the side angle because it tilts out. I’ll just enjoy it for now! Thank you so so much for including me again this year! XO
Jen, all I can say is perfection!!! I love everything about this – the rich navy and gold, the tartan, your living room is always a stunner! I love everything you do!! Merry Christmas my friend!! xo
