I am proud and excited to reveal the Kitchen in this beautiful home today! I met with this family just over a year ago when they were working on plans for their new home. As we sat down to discuss what direction they wanted to go for their home, one of the first things they said was no white kitchen. White kitchens seem to be everywhere these days, I personally love white cabinets and feel that they are timeless. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with white. That being said, it doesn’t work for everyone. Some feel that white is cold and sterile. My clients wanted a warm rich feel to their kitchen and I was happy to oblige!
We chose a dark Ebony stain for the cabinets, then we went on an exhaustive search for the perfect countertops. After discussing the pros and cons of Marble and Quartzite, we decided Quartzite would be a better fit for their family. Marble is a softer and more porous stone that stains and etches easily. If you are the type that leaves dishes on the counter, such as coffee or soda cups, or have frequent spills, then marble isn’t your best bet if you are worried about staining and etching. Quartzite isn’t quite as low maintenance as granite, but it’s a much safer choice offers a similar character and style to marble. In the end, we chose a few stunning slabs of White Macaubus Quartzite, it is truly one of my favorite stones to date.
Originally I wanted to use the quartzite on the entire backsplash as well as on the counters. However, to keep costs down, we ran the quartzite above the stove then opted to use a glass subway tile in a tone similar to the wall color so it would add texture without detracting from the quartzite.
This kitchen is all about the quartzite, but the lighting and plumbing fixtures almost steal the show! (product links included below)
How Awesome is that fridge?! I have the same one in my home and we love it!
Flooring is quarter sawn white oak with clear stain. Walls are PP&G Ghost Writer.
I hope you enjoyed the tour of this kitchen! It was a pleasure to design, I know my clients will enjoy countless hours entertaining in this space!
