Prepping for guests? Quickly transform your guest bedroom with the tips I share in my one-hour lake house guest bedroom makeover on a budget.
I have been counting down the days until we can welcome out-of-state guests to our lake house. We completed our home in the summer of 2020. Up until now, we’ve mostly had immediate family members up to visit. We have a few out-of-town visitors planning on coming soon so I wanted to figure out what spaces needed a little attention to make the stay more comfortable for our guests.
The basement guest bedroom needed some help. Let’s dive into this quick guest bedroom makeover on a budget!
My Quick and Effective Plan for the Lake House Guest Bedroom Makeover
My plan needed to be quick and simple, a one-hour guest bedroom makeover on a budget! With a little help from Walmart.com I created a warm and welcoming space for our guests. *This post is sponsored by Walmart, all opinions are my own.
The guest bedroom in our basement needed a lot of help. With the low ceilings, white walls and only a queen bed it was lacking warmth and style. Even though this room left much to be desired, it is the most comfortable room to stay in out of our three guest rooms. It’s the only bedroom in the basement so it’s quiet and it has a bathroom next to the bedroom that isn’t shared. It’s also the coolest place in the home during the summer months. Here’s a peek at the before.
Now let’s take a look at the finished space and I’ll walk you through how we got there!
What Are the Best Items to Make a Blank Room Feel Cohesive?
To make a blank room feel cohesive, consider adding these essential items: drapes, bedding, accent pillows, rugs, lighting, artwork, and decorative accessories. These elements help tie the room together and create a harmonious look.
I made a list of items I knew I needed for the room drapes, bedding, accent pillows, etc. All of which I quickly found on walmart’s home section online. I had to get creative about what we could do to the wall to add impact. I didn’t have time to paint or add any finish trim to create an accent wall, I wanted to warm up the room by adding a little wood and I had an idea….
How I Added Warmth to My Lake House Bedroom
I found these beautiful walnut headboards on walmart.com, at under $100 a piece they were an affordable way to add some warmth and give the feel that we added some woodwork. It’s definitely a bonus that we can take them down and use them as headboards at a later date!
I was really impressed with these blackout drapery panels for the price! At $35 per SET, I was able to double up and use two panels on each side for a more luxurious look.
I also found these accent pillows, they have such great texture! The square stripe pillows are reversible!
Simple and Affordable Guest Bedroom Accents
A few of the items I ordered were ready to pick up my local Walmart the next day. Before I drove over to the pickup area, I ran in the store to grab a few things. I found these adorable faux succulents, they’re perfect for the nightstands. When I finished in the store I drove over to the pickup area and they brought my order right out, it was so easy!
I found this set of two hats at Walmart.com, I wore them on repeat all week! I had one guest up last week who needed a hat for the beach. It’s a good thing I had that covered!
Lake House Bedroom Bedding on a Budget
Can we just talk about how awesome it is that Gap has a home line at Walmart??! This white denim bedding set was perfect for the room!
I grabbed these baskets earlier this summer and I’ve found so many uses for them!
I still can’t get over the difference these walnut headboards made! The best part is that my husband had them hung in minutes!
With a little planning ahead, this room came together in less than an hour! I am so excited to welcome more guests to our little retreat soon! You can see more of our home here and here.
