It’s Thursday! Time for an update on my One Room Challenge progress! (If you are just joining, you can catch up on weeks One, Two, and Three here) After feeling like I wasn’t getting much accomplished for the past few weeks, I finally feel like things are happening! I was able to find a few local contractors to come help me out, that took a huge load of stress off my shoulders. The sconces are wired, and the finish trim is done. Now all I have to do is finish painting, this is the part where I’m having some major second thoughts, and/or dread.. It’s not because I’m second guessing my decision to go with white, it has to do with the fact that the older I get, the less I like anything DIY. It sounds great in my head, until I start the project and realize just how many dang nooks and crannies are in those built ins! I would much rather hire this part out but I don’t know anyone who would be able to get to it in time. I’m committed so there’s no turning back now!
Between appointments, making dinner, helping with overdue science projects, and getting my daughter in for an MRI (she’s fine btw, just needs a repeat surgery), I managed to snap a few photos to show what has been accomplished this far. I desperately wish I had some beautiful photos to share with you today alas, this is our reality at the moment.
I do have to say, I will miss the charcoal gray a bit. It adds a lot of warmth and character. That being said, as soon as we pulled down the trim that was above the fireplace it lightened up our space. I am so thrilled with how the finish work turned out! In this photo, we still had shelving to remove on the left side to make room for the TV. I know I said I wanted it out of there, but my family won that dispute. Despite not having a TV in this room for the past week, my boys still want to hang out in here, you can see my youngest where he spends most of his time, playing on the floor. Ideally I’d still like to get my kids to use the basement family room more, but as usual, there’s what think should happen and then there’s reality.. Time will tell if they’ll start spending more time down there, but for now I’m happy with the fact that they aren’t watching ANY TV at all :)!
Now on to some of the deliveries I’ve received so far, and decisions I’ve made!
These chairs were delivered from a local store last week and I love them! The Rug was delivered as well, it was option number 2 and it’s the clear winner. It’s a little darker than what I’m used to, but I think with all of the light furnishings I’ve ordered, it’ll help ground the space. I love that it has the Peacock/teal in it that I’m using with my accent pillows.
The chairs were purchased locally, I couldn’t find a source for them online, but you can find similar options Here, and Here.
I am so excited to share with you the chandelier I chose! It’s not the one I had originally planned on purchasing, this one is much better for my space!
I was planning on adding chrome accents to match the rest of my home, but I love the warmth of the brass, it compliments the jewel tones of the accent pillows. I picked this as I was just about to order the cabinet hardware that I mentioned last week, so it was still a good time to make the switch to the brass/gold tones. I picked some sconces with the help of my friends over at Lighting Design, I work with them on all of my projects and they always take great care of me!
I’m still waiting on the Pillows
and the custom art from Christie Adelle, I am so excited to see what she comes up with for my space!
I’m also waiting on my cocktail table and sofa from Thomasville of Utah.
On my to do list
- Find new hardware
- Finish painting built ins
- Install lighting
- Shop for accessories (my favorite part)
