Let me preface by saying I am not crazy. Ok maybe a little, but who isn’t?? Yes my house is still listed. Why would you join the One Room Challenge you ask? Well the answer to that is simple. I have been dying to join the challenge but held back in the hopes that we might be moving. However, the odds aren’t in our favor that our home will sell quickly. In our area there have only been 2 homes sold within 100,000 of our price range in the last yr. With that being said, we may not be going anywhere anytime soon, so I decided to take the plunge and join the challenge!
I have several rooms in my home that could use some work. I chose my family room because it’s the heart of the home, and any investment I make in this space will likely yield the best return.
This space is a favorite of many, I’m sure some are questioning why I would do anything different. When we were building our home, I was on the fence about doing builtins at all. We had them in our last home and I wanted something different. I found several designs on Pinterest and was inspired to do builtins and paint them charcoal with a contrasting white mantle. While I’ve loved them, I have been feeling a little restrained by the charcoal color. I’ve been talking about painting them for about a year, but one of my designer friends joked that Instagram would have a melt down 😉
This isn’t your typical week one post as I don’t have a design board to share with you just yet. I can say every item in this room will be either repurposed, or used elsewhere in my home. We don’t buy new furnishings often and when we do, we typically reuse items in another space.
On the list of things I’ll be changing,
1-new sofa
2-new side chairs
3-paint builtins
4-move television and add focal piece
5-new light fixture (I may just have something else up my sleeve)
6-new coffee table and rug
7-possible new drapes (I love these custom drapes and I already have the perfect new spot for them if they are moved)
Be sure to check back for updates each week for the next five weeks! Wish me luck, I’ll need it!
X0,
Jen
