With spring coming soon, some of you may be looking for ways to freshen spaces in your home. Something as simple as changing your bedding can make a huge impact on your bedroom. Today I’m going to share with you 5 steps to making a bed that is both beautiful and functional and tips on choosing the right bedding for you. Serena and Lily is launching their new Linen Collection today, I was over the moon when they reached out to share pieces of the new collection with me and offer my readers 15% off using the code STYLEHOUSE15! Serena and Lily is known for their high quality and style, two things I always look for when searching for products, whether it’s for my clients, or to share with you. *Some items have been provided by Serena and Lily, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Step 1- Sheets are the foundation of your bedding. When selecting sheets I look for a thread count of at least 300, they are closest to your skin while you sleep so you want them to feel soft and luxurious. I chose Serena and Lily’s Laurel sheet set in sand, the intricate details add some interest to these beautiful crisp white sheets.
Step 2- Create layers by using a blanket and duvet, or quilt. I love the look of tone on tone using different textures. White is a nice clean and crisp base, but if you are worried about using white, a light gray or flax make a great neutral base as well. I chose the New Cavallo Linen Duvet cover from Serena and Lily, I love the texture the linen adds, it’s perfect because it adds a casual elegance to our room. Duvet covers are great because you can easily remove your down comforter to wash the cover. You can also change out your down comforter as the seasons change, I love a nice heavy down in the winter, but by summer light and airy is all I want.
Step 3- Add your color with a mixture of pillows in different textures and patterns. Starting at the back I used 3 euro pillows, typically thats where I would add my bold or large pattern. I was going for a serene look and I fell in love with the Gramercy shams, the tiny dots create pattern reminiscent of a herringbone pattern. I layered the King Laurel shams in front of the Euro pillows, next I chose the 22″ square Province pillow covers in Seaglass. The raw silk texture of the Province pillow covers is amazing, and they are soft! Last but not least I added the Naples pillow, it is embroidered with banana silk giving it a beautiful sheen, each corner is adorned with pom poms adding a touch of whimsy. *Designer tip-Use a slightly larger pillow insert in your shams, I used a 24″ pillow insert in my 22″ covers. I always use down filled or down alternative inserts, they shape beautifully and are more comfortable to lean into.

Step 4- Continue the layering by adding a throw to the foot of you bed. You can use it to add more color or texture, or for warmth on a chilly evening. I added the Casablanca Pom throw , this Moroccan throw is the dreamiest piece of all of my bedding! It’s luxuriously handwoven perfection, and large enough to pull up over me when it’s chilly. It quickly became a favorite spot for my little guy!
Step 5- Determine what your needs are and incorporate them. Too many pillows for you? Try skipping the Euro pillows, use your king pillows then add a few throw pillows in front of them. If a duvet is too heavy for your climate try adding a lightweight blanket and fold a lightweight quilt or throw at the foot of the bed. Our bed is used not only to sleep in, but it is also our theater room at times, an occasional office when I work on my computer while watching TV, or a gathering spot for my kids to hang out and talk to us. I love to use a lot of pillows that we can lean back and prop ourselves up on. Your bedding shouldn’t just be pretty, it should be welcoming and comfortable! I love the quality and feel of Serena and Lily’s, products, don’t forget that as my reader you can get 15% off your purchase!

Jen, I really love the way you layer linens. I’m excited to try the Serena and Lily bedding pictured above. The bed itself is exactly what I have been looking for as well. Can you tell me where I might find one as well? We are moving to a new house in the country and I think it will be exactly what the new master bedroom needs!
Thank you,
Beryl
