July was a CRAZY month for us! In preparation for an entire month of company coming and going I decided to tackle a long overdue makeover on our guest bedroom. I have been inspired by our trips to the lake and I’ve had blue, white and rattan on my mind so I’m calling this a Lakeside inspired makeover. I can’t WAIT to show you the transformation of this room!! (*this post contains affiliate links)
Lets check out the before…

This room was full of castoffs and hand me downs. I’m embarrassed now looking back at how sad this room was! We do have family come in town at least a few times a year, but we also had extra family living with us. For three years off and on this room was a place for my nieces to stay and was their home away from home while they attended work or school. I know my sister would do the same for my kids if they moved out of state, and I know she was comforted knowing her girls were with us just before they moved out into the world. It felt extra empty without the girls here and it was finally time to give this space a makeover!

The starting point was this gorgeous duvet cover from Magic Linen. They are a family owned european company. All of their products are made with the highest quality linen fabrics. Their duvet sets are made to order but ship within 5 days and they ship worldwide. I absolutely love the bedding and my guests so far have loved it as well! My sister in law raved about how soft it is. *Bedding was provided by Magic linen, all opinions are my own.
I would definitely recommend the Striped linen duvet! With 3 different families staying over the course of a month it has already seen a lot of use. It looks every bit as beautiful as day one! It’s a bonus that their fabrics are organic and handmade!

I have been planning on doing a vertical board and batten treatment on another project I am working on (I’ll give you a little hint if you look back at this post!). I knew it would be the perfect fit for this space as well! I painted all of the walls a light white color (Sherwin Williams Snowbound). I can’t believe how much it changed the space, immediately it felt like a different room. It was so much lighter and our 10′ ceilings feel even taller! Can you believe this is a basement bedroom??

These nightstands are perfect for the room, the price was great and I love how the open bottom keeps the space from feeling closed in. They are amazing quality for the price as well! You can find similar lamps and accessories in the slider below.
A little peek at the other side…

The corner has one of my favorite pieces in the room, I absolutely adore this chair from Serena and Lily It’s comfortable and stylish, I may order another one and use them in my living room later!

I couldn’t be more excited about this bed! I searched high and low for just the right bed for this space. The quality and design of this piece are second to none. It fits the vibe of the Magic Linen bedding perfectly!
I need to talk about the rug. I had a vision of the type of rug I wanted to use, this rug fit the style and color scheme I was looking for. I couldn’t believe I was lucky enough to find such a perfect rug at such an amazing price! However, when the rug arrived I was disappointed to say the least. I’ve had a LOT of rugs over the years and I was not impressed with this rug at all. There is almost no pile to it, I felt like you could see right through the weave to the backing. It’s not soft at all. I was so close to returning it… I couldn’t finish setting up the bed without having a rug. I debated on moving forward without a rug at all. Then in a moment of desperation I decided to try it (I had more guests arriving within days). The colors could not have been better for the room. It tied everything from my carpet to the bedding all together. So, despite the fact that the quality isn’t what I had hoped I kept the rug and I’m glad I did!
The light fixture is from Ikea but you can find similar fixtures below

I hope this room sees a lot of loved ones over time and that they feel at home in this space. If you have any questions about anything in this post, leave a comment! Don’t forget to sign up for my weekly newsletter and while you’re here pin your favorite images on Pinterest!
