So it’s week 5 of the One Room Challenge and I should be panicking right about now because of my lack of progress. I missed last weeks post due to a crazy schedule, we had so many deliveries to our home for the challenge, I sometimes wonder what the UPS guy thinks when they have to come 3 times in one day. The biggest accomplishment in the space this past week was the installation of the chandelier from Lamps Plus! I am so happy my daughter chose this light fixture from the Glam Boho design board, if you are just catching up you can read about this challenge from the beginning below.
When I was designing her space I actually started with the lighting, I had a few amazing fixtures in mind that I used for inspiration for the design. If you think of your room as an outfit, then the lighting would be the jewelry. Have you ever found an amazing necklace and planned an entire outfit around it? Thats what this chandelier was for this design. In my opinion a statement chandelier is what makes the space!
How to determine size and scale of lighting
We have the ceiling height for a chandelier, but if you don’t have a high ceiling don’t worry, there are plenty of amazing flush mount fixtures that will add that extra spark to your space. There’s even a flush mount fixture that matches the chandelier we chose! When shopping, be sure to pay attention to the size of the fixture, one of the ones I loved was about 40″ wide, it didn’t look large in photos but I knew it would overwhelm the space if I put it in her room. One simple way to determine the size you should use, is to figure out the dimensions of your room in feet, then convert it to inches and add it up to get the circumference of the fixture. For example, my daughters room is about 12’x15′, 12″+15″ is 27″, the light I ordered is 29″ wide. You can see how a 40″ fixture might be a bit too large for the space.
Here’s another photo to show just how stunning this fixture is! You can also see her nightstands that were delivered last week as well.
We ordered these Nate Berkus nightstands, they had great reviews online but every time I looked on the site they were sold out. I kept checking back and was able to snag two when they became available. I was impressed with the quality for the price, the reviews were pretty accurate! The only downside is, they came in no less than 200 pieces ?.
I started putting one together and it was a little slow going because I follow directions a little too closely, luckily my husband stepped in and finished them in no time.
I took a close up to show you the details, I love these nightstands!
Now, a look at a few more of the goodies that arrived this week ?!
I was so so excited to get the Ava art from Christie Adelle, she has such huge talent and I have been so grateful to be able to work with her on multiple projects on my home. This piece is even more beautiful in person and I can’t wait to see it on the wall! The rug is beautiful in her room, it’s so soft and has a little shimmer to it. The ruffle bedding has seen better days so bedding is still on the list. We also need to install the sconces, hang the art and accessory pieces and style her shelves.

Our host Linda from Calling it Home has extended the challenge for another week due to all of the natural disasters the US has experienced this year. That really put things in perspective for me, I’m over here worried about whether or not I have time to finish my space and work on my Christmas decor at the same time, while people are wondering if they’ll have a home to live in by Christmas. I’ve been praying for all who are suffering, I wish I could help each and every person who has been affected by the flooding or fires ?.
