It’s time for the One Room Challenge again! I want to give a huge thank you to Linda from Calling it home for creating the challenge and allowing us to link up and share our makeovers with you!
Here I am day one of the guest participant link up, it’s past 10 pm, it’s my birthday and yet again I’m signing up on a whim to make over one room in my home in the 6 week challenge ?! If you have been a reader for a while you may remember the same challenge last year where I tackled a family room make over.
Here’s the before
I really loved this room however there were some things that didn’t function as well as I would have liked for our family. You can read about the beginning of that project HERE.
Here’s the end product,
As you can see the room wasn’t quite finished in time for the reveal. If you’ve ever ordered upholstered goods then you know six weeks is a tight time frame. The sofa didn’t end up making it until several weeks after the challenge ended ?. We’ll see in the next few weeks if I learned from past mistakes ?. (You can see the entire reveal HERE)
My next project
I didn’t have to put too much thought into which space I’d like to makeover in this challenge. My daughter was 14 when we moved into our home, she will be 18 this spring and she has grown into a beautiful, strong young woman. Her room however, hasn’t grown with her and doesn’t reflect who she is today. Her plan is to move away for school next spring ?, I’m shamelessly making over her room in hopes of keeping her here just a bit longer!
The Before
As you can see she has a darling room (or she used to thing so years ago). She has had color on her walls in all of our previous homes so we went with a bold ceiling to change things up. She now wants to be free of color, she literally wants a blank slate. We are going white! White ceiling, white walls, white bedding. I have plans though, this won’t be a cold white room! I’ll be incorporating a lot of texture in different elements of the space, it’s going to have a boho vibe with a few transitional pieces.
These are some of the rooms that inspired the makeover,

The plan
Paint walls and ceiling
Replace light fixture
New flooring
New bedding, rug, and nightstands
If time and budget allow, updates to attached bath
That doesn’t sound too ambitious right??? We definitely have our work cut out for us, and by we I mean me as she already asked me yesterday when I’M going to start painting HER room ?. She did bring me flowers and balloons for my Birthday today so all is forgiven 😉 Be sure to sign up for my newsletter so you can follow along. I’ll be posting updates on my progress and my design plans every Thursday.
You can follow all of the guest participates in the One Room Challenge HERE.
I have a busy weekend ahead! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Jen!
I’m also working on a bedroom for my first ORC and thought it would be fun to check out other people’s projects. It’s a shame to see the fun teal and coral room go, but how awesome that you’re honoring your daughter’s transition into adulthood with a sophisticated renovation! What a fun project to work on together. Can’t wait to see the results!

I actually like the before picture! But the inspiration photos are cozy and clean and more grown up looking. I can’t wait to follow along!
